August 11, 2015

Beloit, WI – After a national search, Beloit College has named Rashad Devoe as its head Men’s Lacrosse coach, Director of Athletics & Recreation Tim Schmiechen has announced.

He will begin his duties on or around August 18.

Devoe comes to Beloit as the second head Men’s Lacrosse coach in the program’s history after two seasons as the assistant Lacrosse coach at Colby College in Waterville, Maine, where he helped lead the team to the NESCAC Quarterfinals in both of his seasons.

He was also a two-year assistant Lacrosse coach at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, helping the team to the SCAC Championship Game in 2013.

A 1996 graduate of the State University of Buffalo in Buffalo, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Health, he also holds a Masters of Public Health from West Chester University in West Chester, Pennsylvania, earned in 2004.

“I am very excited about becoming the Head Men's Lacrosse Coach at Beloit College,” said Devoe.  “As soon as I stepped on campus I had the feeling that this was a special place. The campus is beautiful and the people made me feel like family from the first moments. The opportunity to coach at Beloit was very exciting to me, not many schools offer both high level academics and athletics the way they do here.”

“I would like to thank President Scott Bierman, Dean of Students Christina Klawitter, and Director of Athletics Tim Schmiechen for trusting me to coach this group of talented young men and to continue building Beloit into a first-class lacrosse program,” Devoe continued.  “I would also like to thank Bill Bowmen of Southwestern University, Chris Surran of Jesuit College Preparatory, Peter Lasagna of Bates College and Jack Sandler of Colby College for being such amazing mentors and giving me so much autonomy, guidance and support.”

Devoe also has experience as the assistant coach at Dallas Jesuit High School for two seasons, helping to lead the team to a #23 national ranking in 2011; as head coach for the Plano (Texas) Lacrosse Club for three seasons; and as the head coach for Iron Horse Lacrosse Select Travel Teams in Dallas since 2009.

“We are extremely excited to have Coach Devoe join us,” said Schmiechen.  “His successes with recruiting, mentoring his players, and his dedication to a liberal arts education make him a wonderful addition to our department and to Beloit College.”

Beloit College is a residential, liberal arts college offering 40 majors to its 1,250-plus students.  It is located 90 miles northwest of Chicago and is one of the nation’s most international colleges, drawing students from more than 40 nations as well as every state.
