Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team wasted little time taking care of their Saturday afternoon game with the University of Dubuque, scoring 11 goals in each half and posting a second half shutout in a 22-2 win at Strong Stadium.
Matt Kelly, Nick Meisberger, Liam O'Connor and Aidan Whinnery made it 4-0 in the opening quarter while the defense allowed just two shots on goal, John Murphy stopping both of them, for a 4-0 lead.
O'Connor scored his second goal early in the second period before the Spartans got on the board with a man-up score. Zach Carner and Whinnery scored back-to-back to make it 7-1 before UD cut the lead to 7-2 at the 5:40 mark. The second Dubuque score must have gotten the Bucs a little miffed as they closed the half with four scores - three by O'Connor and one by Mike Spencer - to make it 11-2 at the break.
Those four goals to end the first half was only the beginning as Beloit scored seven in the third quarter to extend their lead to 18-2 heading to the fourth. Carner had two goals in the period while Matt Lee, Grant Oie, Whinnery, Matt Kelly and O'Connor extended the advantage.
Kevin Joswiak, Carner, Spencer and Brendan Holser, with his first career goal, closed out the game with a four-goal final period. Trevor Kenahan, Jace Hodder and Tommy Otis held the Spartans scoreless in the second half, combining for three saves.
O'Connor's 10-point game, with four assists added to his six goals, was the third-highest in Beloit history while his six goals also rank third. Jake Wallace, coming off an 11-ground ball effort against Fontbonne Wednesday, had 12 against Dubuque, the second-most in Beloit history.
