April 2, 2015

Aidan Whinnery, 4-1Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team couldn't recover from a rough third quarter in a 15-7 loss to Aurora University at Strong Stadium on Wednesday night.

The Bucs scored the first and last goals of the opening quarter, with Grant Oie (Nick Meisberger) putting Beloit up 1-0 at the 10:32 mark and Aidan Whinnery (Oie) closing the quarter with 23 seconds left.  But in between those scores Aurora hit the back of the net four times for a 4-2 advantage.

The Spartans increased their lead in the second period with three goals, though the Buccaneers stayed close with scores by Oie and Whinnery (Liam O'Connor) to make it 7-4 at the break.

AU took charge in the third quarter with five goals while Beloit had only Whinnery's third score of the game.  From the second period thru Whinnery's goal Aurora went on a six-goal run, which helped build their 12-5 lead going to the fourth.

The Bucs got goals from Zach Carner and Whinnery in the fourth quarter but the Spartans tallied three times for the final score.

Jake Wallace had a team-high seven ground balls while Carner had five.  Carner also had nine faceoff wins.  John Murphy made 15 saves in net with Trevor Kenahan playing the fourth period and making four saves.

The Buccaneers look to get back in the win column Saturday at Benedictine University in a Midwest Lacrosse Conference game.  Action begins at 1:00 p.m.
