Buccaneers Start, Finish Strong for MLC-Opening Win

Men's Lacrosse, 3-21Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team started and finished strong while holding on in the middle for a 10-6 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering in the team's first Midwest Lacrosse Conference game Saturday at Strong Stadium.

The Buccaneers took a 3-1 lead after one quarter on goals by Liam O'Connor (Nick Meisberger), Aidan Whinnery, and Jake Pritscher (Grant Oie) while MSOE got on the board four minutes before the end of the period.

The Raiders got within 3-2 less than four minutes into the second period before Whinnery (Rikley Buckingham), Pritscher (Zach Carner) and Matt Kelly made it a 6-2 game with three straight scores.  MSOE closed the gap with a score at the 2:02 mark to make it 6-3 heading to the break.

The Raiders made their move in the third quarter, scoring three straight goals in a 2:08 span after Whinnery had upped the lead to 7-3 seven minutes in, making it 7-6 entering the fourth.

The Buccaneers sealed the win in the fourth quarter with three unanswered goals while shutting down MSOE's attack.  Whinnery, Kelly, and Whinnery again (O'Connor) accounted for the final score.

John Murphy had seven saves in net for the win.  Jake Wallace had nine ground balls in the contest while Carner had six.  Brendan FitzGerald had three caused turnovers.

Beloit has some time off before heading to Mequon on Thursday to take on Concordia University.  Game time is at 4:00 p.m.
