March 14, 2015

Conway, AR -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team got the monkey off their back Saturday with an 8-4 win at Hendrix College, their first victory of the 2015 season.

Liam O'Connor got the Buccaneers off in the right direction, scoring the first two goals of the game, assisted by Nick Meisberger and Grant Oie, respectively, for a 2-0 lead.  Aidan Whinnery got in the act nine seconds after O'Connor's second goal, assisted by O'Connor, to make it 3-0 at the end of one period.

The Warriors got back in the game with the only two goals of the second quarter, including their second one 56 seconds before the half, to make the score 3-2, Bucs, at the break.

Beloit answered those two goals early in the third period.  The first came from Matt Kelly at 13:44 with Whinnery making it a 5-2 game at 11:46, assisted by Oie.  After a Hendrix score closed the gap Kelly scored his second of the quarter, assisted by Whinnery, 11 seconds before the end of the quarter and the Buccaneers were up 6-3 entering the fourth.

Whinnery scored his third and fourth goals of the game at 14:37 and 7:26 of the final period, both assisted by O'Connor, to make it an 8-3 advantage.  The Warriors closed out the scoring at the 3:59 mark for the final result.

Besides Whinnery and O'Connor's five-point games, Zach Carner had a team-high 10 ground balls and was also 8-12 on faceoffs.  Gabe Pearlman had three caused turnovers.  John Murphy made 14 saves in net for the win.
