Comeback Effort Leaves Bucs One Score Short

Elmhurst, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team came so close to completing a fourth-period comeback but fell just short in an 8-7 loss at Elmhurst College on Saturday afternoon.

The Bluejays got the scoring going at 9:18 of the opening period before Matt Kelly tied it up with the man advantage at 7:36.  Elmhurst scored at 3:05 to lead 2-1 after one.

EC increased their lead to 4-1 with back-to-back goals at 12:12 and 7:02 of the second period but Beloit answered with Nick Meisberger's first career goal, assisted by Aidan Whinnery, at 3:10 and a man-up goal from Whinnery, assisted by Liam O'Connor, at 1:55.  The Bluejays ended the period with a goal 27 seconds before halftime to lead 5-3 at the break.

Elmhurst came out on fire to open the third with three straight goals to increase their lead to 8-3 before Whinnery stopped the run, assisted by Kelly, at the 1:00 mark.

Entering the fourth down 8-4, Kelly started the comeback at 10:56 followed by a man-up score by Whinnery, assisted by Jake Wallace, at 4:17 to pull the Bucs back within 8-6.  Whinnery scored his fourth goal of the game, assisted by O'Connor, at 3:51 to pull Beloit within one but it was as close as they would get.

Trevor Kenahan made four saves in net in the first 30 minutes while John Murphy had eight saves in the second half.

Beloit is now off on their Spring Trip with two games on the week.  They play at Rhodes College in Memphis on Wednesday night before traveling over to Arkansas to take on Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon.  Back up north, they play their home opener on Saturday, March 21, against Milwaukee School of Engineering at Strong Stadium at 2:00 p.m.
