Buccaneer Men's Lacrosse Falls Victim to Big Second Quarter in Season-Opening Loss

Beverly Hills, MI -- The Beloit College Men's Lacrosse team hoped for a better result in their 2015 season opener but were hit hard by a big second period in a 19-7 loss to Albion College at Detroit Country Day.

Liam O'Connor got the first goal of the season at 12:14 of the opening period before Albion scored four straight to take charge.  Aidan Whinnery cut into the deficit with 2:59 left in the period before AC scored 11 seconds later to make it 5-2 after one.

The second period proved to be the deciding one for the Bucs.  The Britons scored the first eight goals to move in front 13-2 before Matt Lee, assisted by Whinnery, tallied at the 2:29 mark to stop the run.  Albion scored one more for good measure three seconds before halftime to take a 14-3 lead into the break.

Albion made it 16-3 with two goals in the first four minutes of the second quarter before Whinnery got his second goal of the game.  The Brits made it 17-4 thru three with a final score at the 6:26 mark.

The Buccaneers out-scored Albion 3-2 in the final period, with two goals coming from Zach Carner and the third by Grant Oie (Jake Pritscher).

Trevor Kenahan finished with 11 saves for the Bucs in net.  

Beloit looks to rebound when they play Trine University at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois, on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m.
