Jacksonville, Ill. – Coming off an impressive in-conference win, the Men’s Basketball Team continued their winning ways Wednesday night in Jacksonville, Illinois, taking down the Blue Boys of Illinois College by a final score of 82-58.
The Bucs won back-to-back games for the first time this season, and did so in dominating fashion, shooting 52% (35-67) from the field and outrebounding the Blue Boys 42-20.
An early lead by Illinois College would not last long for the home team, as Tristan Shoup’s (’20 Fort Atkinson, Wis.) jumper at the 13:13 mark in the 1st half gave the Bucs a lead (8-6) they would never relinquish. Shoup stuffed the stat box for the Bucs, posting 16 points and 8 rebounds to go along with 5 assists, 2 steals, and 2 blocks.
With the Bucs leading by 10 (33-23) at the half, the Blue Boys battled back to cut the lead to 6 (39-33). However, Beloit responded minutes later with a 9-0 run, capped off with an emphatic dunk from First-Year guard Andrew Walters (’21 Denver, Colo.), to give the visitors a 17-point lead (56-39) midway through the 2nd half.
From there, the Bucs stretched their lead to as high as 26 points (73-47) off a 3-pointer from #13 Nathaniel Shead (Plano, Ill.) with 3:48 left to play before ending the game with a comfortable 24-point advantage.
Sophomore Mason Jones (’20 Santa Maria, Calif.) recorded his first double-double of the season on 11 points and 12 rebounds. In addition, the first-year duo of Walters and Shead both hit double figures, chipping in 16 and 18 points, respectively.
The Bucs (4-18, 3-12) will look to continue their late season success when they return home to Flood Arena this Saturday to take on the Prairie Fire of Knox College. Tip-off is at 1:00pm.
