Bucs Hot Start Not Enough in 48-50 Loss to Knox

January 12, 2018

Galesburg, IL - In their first of two games this weekend, the Men’s Basketball team started fast offensively, but fell just short against the Prairie Fire of Knox College, 48-50.

The Bucs raced out to a 16-2 lead, as Senior Cody Risseeuw (’18 Clinton, Wis.) scored the first 8 points in the opening run. After the offense settled down, Beloit led for most of the half until a late run by Knox gave the Prairie fire a 7-point advantage heading into the locker room.

Knox stretched their lead into double digits to start the second half, but the Bucs came roaring back and cut the lead to 1 on a free-throw by #22 Kenneth Williams with 1:57 left to play. Nathaniel Shead (’21 Plano, Ill.) had 2 chances to tie the game, but the Bucs couldn’t convert as the Prairie Fire held on.

Risseeuw finished the game with a double-double on 20 points and 13 rebounds. He was joined in double figures by #5 Tristan Shoup (’20 Fort Atkinson, Wis.), who chipped in 19 points.

The Bucs (2-12, 1-6) return to action Saturday, January 13th, as they take on the Pioneers from Grinnell College. Tip-off is at 2:00pm.
