De Pere, Wis. - After a holiday trip down to Texas to end 2017, the Men’s Basketball Team kicked off 2018 back in Wisconsin against the Green Knights of St. Norbert College, but their fast start wasn’t enough in a contest they dropped 57-73.
The Bucs’ offense came out firing early, hitting their first 4 shots from the field to take a quick 11-4 lead 3 minutes into the game. They were able to stretch their lead to as high as 10 (18-8) with 12:55 remaining in the 1st half, thanks in large part to the hot hand of #21 Cody Risseeuw (’18 Clinton, Wis.), who led the Bucs with 11 points in the first frame.
After a Green Knights run to start the second half, the Bucs clawed back to make it a 13-point game (38-51) on a layup by #5 Tristan Shoup (Fort Atkinson, Wis.); However, this was as close as they could get, as St. Norbert clamped down on defense to end the game.
Despite their early-game barrage, the Bucs finished out the game shooting just 38% (21-56) from the field. Shoup joined Risseeuw as the other Buc to score in double-figures, finishing with 12 points on 6-11 (55%) shooting.
The Bucs (1-11, 0-4) finally return home to the confines of Flood Arena on January 6th after a 3-game road trip to take on Illinois College in a conference showdown. Tip-off is at 2pm.
