Bucs Lose Heartbreaker to Sabres, 68-70

December 20, 2017

Beloit, Wis. - In their final game at Flood Arena before the holiday break, the Bucs came up just short against the Sabres of Marian University, falling in a competitive contest 68-70.

The offense was firing on all cylinders in the first half for the Bucs, as the team shot 52% (15-29) from the field in the opening frame. Senior Cody Risseeuw (’18 Clinton, Wis.) was the catalyst behind the effort with 3 made shots from beyond the arc in the first 20 minutes, as the Bucs took a 37-30 lead into the half.

After a quick burst from the Sabres to start the second half, Beloit came roaring back with an 11-0 run to regain the lead halfway through the half. Risseeuw’s 4th 3-pointer of the game gave the Bucs a late 68-66 lead with two minutes remaining; however, a couple of turnovers helped the Sabres retake the lead for good in the final minute. #33 Andrew Walters (’21 Denver, Colo.) had a chance to win the game at the buzzer, but his shot was just off as time expired.

Joining fellow senior Risseeuw in double figures was #55 Carlton Henning (’18 Marshall, Wis.), who registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in the game.

The Bucs (1-8) are off until after Christmas, when they will travel down to Austin, Texas for a tournament at Concordia University (TX) to close out the year.
