Bucs Battle Back from 1st Half Deficit but Fall at MWC Contender Ripon

Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team came back from an opening half deficit but couldn't overcome Midwest Conference contender Ripon College Wednesday night in a 70-58 loss.

The Buccaneers trailed 20-16 midway through the first half before the Red Hawks went on a four-minute 12-0 run to take a 32-16 lead with 6:19 left.  Beloit got back within 12 with just over two minutes left but RC closed the half on a 7-0 run to lead 45-26 at the break.

It was the Bucs' turn for a run coming out of the lockerroom, out-scoring Ripon 17-4 in the first six minutes of the second half to pull within 49-43 on Mike Gulve's three-pointer at the 14:24 mark.  Beloit never got closer than six but kept the deficit in single digits until the final six minutes when the Red Hawks pushed their lead back into double figures, peaking at 70-54 with 1:30 remaining.

Beloit did shoot better in the second half than the first but still finished at 36.9% (24-65) for the game.  Ripon tailed off after shooting 58.1% in the first half to finish at 49.2% (29-59).

Cody Risseeuw had 13 points and eight rebounds to lead the Buccaneers while Mason Jones added 11 and Mike Gulve 10.  Tristan Shoup handed out four assists.

The Bucs look to turn things around on Saturday afternoon when they host Monmouth College in Flood Arena for Senior Day.  Action begins at 3:00 p.m. with the Senior Day recognition set for after the conclusion of the Women's contest.
