Lake Forest, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team's comeback in their Midwest Conference opener fell just short in a 66-63 loss at Lake Forest College Tuesday night.
The Buccaneers grabbed the early lead with a quick 10-3 run but the Foresters answered with a 5-0 run to tie the game at 12-12 at the 12:00 mark. The game stayed within three points for the next 11 minutes until a 5-1 run by Beloit gave them a four-point lead with just over a minute left in the half. LFC scored six straight to regain the lead before Andrew Bremner's layin at the buzzer made it 28-all at the break.
Lake Forest took the lead less than two minutes into the second half and built it as high as nine midway through the period. The Bucs put together a 15-6 run over the next five minutes to pull back within 56-55 with 4:34 left. But Beloit could never tie it up or regain the lead down the stretch, though there were several opportunities in the closing minutes. The Foresters finally sealed it with three free throws in the final eight seconds.
Beloit finished at just 36.2% (21-58) shooting for the game and only 16-30 from the free throw line. Lake Forest shot 41% (25-61). LFC took the rebound battle 44-42.
Cody Risseeuw had a career-high 24 points to lead the Bucs while Bremner had 14 points and his third straight double-digit rebound game with 13. Sam Noyce had 10 points while Mike Gulve handed out four assists.
Beloit has a break for Thanksgiving before getting back on the court next Tuesday when they travel to UW-Whitewater for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference game.
