Grinnell, IA – Steve McAfee, Jr., a 6’5 senior guard/forward for the Beloit College Men’s Basketball team from Chicago, Illinois (Urban Prep Academy-Englewood), has earned a spot on the 2015-16 All-Midwest Conference Men’s Basketball Team, landing First Team accolades. The Conference office released the team today.
McAfee, who earned Second Team honors after the 2014-15 season and was Honorable Mention in 2012-13, finished his career in style, becoming the third-leading scorer in Beloit Men’s Basketball history with 1,598 points after starting the season 15th on the list. He led the team in scoring at 22.5 ppg and rebounding at 9.9 per contest while shooting 51% from the field, 36.4% from three-point and 74.4% from the free throw line, all that averaging 36.7 minutes per game. At the end of the regular season he ranked third in the MWC in scoring and second in rebounding.
Career-wise, in addition to his point total, McAfee ranks third in field goals made with 560; third in free throws made with 386; and fifth in rebounds with 622. Over an 86-game career he averaged 18.6 ppg and 7.2 rebounds, recording 19 double-doubles, 10 this season.
The Buccaneers finished the 2015-16 season 11-12 overall, 9-9 in the MWC. The 11 overall wins mark the third time in head coach Brian Vraney’s tenure the team achieved double-figure victories while the nine MWC wins are the most since the 2012-13 season.
