Buccaneers Shoot Their Way to Season-Ending Win

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team continued their strong late-season play with an 85-77 win over Ripon College on Senior Night at Flood Arena Wednesday, their fourth win in their final five games.  The lone loss in that stretch was to 11th-ranked St. Norbert College.

Seniors Rudy Bentley, Jr. and Steve McAfee, Jr. both played their final game for the Bucs.

Ripon held the upper hand early, out-scoring the Buccaneers 19-9 over the first nine minutes and building their lead as big as 13 during the opening half.  But Beloit closed the last 3:31 of the half on a 13-2 run, capped by Andrew Bremner's buzzer-beating half-court three-pointer to tie the contest at 38-all.

The Bucs continued their run out of the lockerroom, opening the second half on a 12-2 run to lead 50-40 just over four minutes in.  RC closed back to within six at 14:36 but Beloit responded with a 12-3 run to take a 65-50 lead just shy of the midway point.  Still up 68-55 with 9:31 remaining the Red Hawks went on a 20-9 run that pulled them within 77-75 at the 3:28 mark.  But two free throws each from Mike Gulve, Carlton Henning and McAfee, plus a thunderous dunk by McAfee off a Bentley feed, helped the Buccaneers close out the win.

Beloit shot 58.6% (17-29) during their big second half and finished at 50% (31-62).  Ripon finished at 46.2% (30-65), including hitting 10 three-pointers.

McAfee closed out a great career with 31 points, his 12th 30-point game, and 14 rebounds, giving him his 19th career double-double, 10 of them this season.  He finished third in career scoring with 1,598 points, fifth in rebounding (622), and third in both made field goals (560) and made free throws (386).

Bremner had 19 points while Bentley finished with 17 points, five rebounds and four assists.  He ended with over 800 career points and 287 assists, the third-most assists in Beloit history.  Henning added eight rebounds.
