De Pere, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team put together a comeback in each half but it wasn't enough to overcome 14th-ranked St. Norbert College in a 72-56 loss Saturday.
The Green Knights came out on fire in the first half, building a 27-4 lead by the midway point. Beloit went on a 12-4 run to pull back within 31-16 with just under six minutes left but SNC closed on a 10-3 run to lead 41-19 heading to the lockerroom.
St. Norbert maintained their 20-plus point advantage thru the first five minutes of the second half before the Buccaneers went on a 16-4 run to pull within 51-43 with 8:44 remaining. But the Green Knights slowly got their lead back up to double-figures and Beloit couldn't get closer than 11 in the final three-plus minutes.
Beloit finished at 36.2% (21-58) shooting for the game after a cold first half of 29.6% (8-27). SNC shot 51.6% (16-31) while building their first-half lead and finished at 45% (27-60) for the game.
Rudy Bentley had 15 points and six assists to lead the Bucs while Steve McAfee had 12 points and Carlton Henning 11. Andrew Bremner grabbed a game-high eight rebounds to go with six points.
The Buccaneers head for Lawrence University on Tuesday night for a 5:30 p.m. MWC game.
