Buccaneers Run Into Hot-Shooting Carroll Squad in Loss

Waukesha, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team saw Carroll University shoot 60% from the field for the game on the way to an 87-76 Midwest Conference loss Tuesday night.

The Pioneers led from the opening tip, getting off to a fast start with the Bucs staying within reach for the first 12 minutes.  But CU used a 17-5 run to pull away from a three-point game and make it 37-22 3:39 before the half.  Carroll led at the break 42-28.

Carroll pushed their lead as high as 20 six minutes into the second half and Beloit could get no closer than nine, that coming with 3:52 remaining when an Andrew Bremner layup made it 79-70.

The Bucs shot 51.4% (18-35) in the second half, looking to make a comeback, but CU topped that with 55.6% shooting (15-27) at the same time following a sizzling 64.3% (18-28) in the opening 20 minutes.  Carroll hit 11 three-pointers to the Bucs' seven.

Steve McAfee had another double-double with 31 points and 12 rebounds, moving within four points of the third spot on the Beloit all-time scoring list.  Rudy Bentley added 12 points and four assists while Carlton Henning had 10 points and five rebounds.

The Bucs have an extended stretch before they get back on the court next Wednesday when they host Illinois College at Flood Arena.  Tip is at 5:30 p.m.
