Jacksonville, IL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team got double-figure scoring from four players on the way to a 76-62 Midwest Conference road win at Illinois College Saturday.
The Buccaneers never trailed in the contest, building a 16-8 lead eight minutes into the game. They were up 26-17 with 7:07 left in the half when the Blueboys put together a 9-2 run to pull within 26-24 with 5:35 left. But Beloit responded with a half-closing 16-8 run to lead 42-32 at the break.
The second 20 minutes was all Buccaneers, with IC getting no closer than the 10-point halftime spread. The lead hit 20 points at 65-45 with 8:06 remaining and got as high as 23 points at 76-53 with four minutes left before settling at the final score.
Beloit shot 43.9% (29-66), including 53.3% (16-30) in the first half. Illinois College shot 51.9% (14-27) in the first 20 minutes but slipped to 35.5% (11-31) in the second half to finish at 43.1% for the game. The Bucs won the rebound battle 40-35 and forced 20 turnovers to their own 13, including making nine steals.
Steve McAfee led the Buccaneers with 18 points while Andrew Bremner scored 15 points and grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds. He also made four steals. Rudy Bentley had 13 points with six assists and Mike Gulve had 12 points on four three-pointers.
The Bucs, winners of two of their last three, look to continue the momentum when they travel to Lake Forest College Wednesday night for a 5:30 p.m. game.
