Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team faced a ranked team for the third time this season Tuesday night in Flood Arena, falling to the 23rd-ranked St. Norbert College 86-60.
The Green Knights, who have won a record 52 consecutive Midwest Conference games, dating back to February of 2013, took control from the opening tip, scoring the game's first 12 points before Andrew Bremner hit a three-pointer at the 12:53 mark. That was the last time the spread was under double figures. SNC's lead hit 20 at 29-9 with 7:55 left in the half and stood at 49-28 at the break.
Beloit shot just 24% (6-25) in the opening 20 minutes while St. Norbert scored at a 57.1% (20-35) rate. They also won the first-half rebounding battle 25-10.
The deficit reached its largest five-plus minutes into the second half at 63-32. The Buccaneer bench whittled the advantage down to 23 with 3:33 remaining on a free throw by Tanner Smith but that's as close as it would get.
Beloit shot 35.3% (18-51) for the game after raising their percentage to 46.2 (12-26) in the second half. SNC finished at 52.4% (33-63) and won the rebound battle 45-23.
Steve McAfee had 16 points and 10 rebounds, moving into fourth place on the Beloit Men's all-time scoring list with 1,395 points. Bremner was the only other Buc in double figures with 11 points. Rudy Bentley and Mike Gulve both scored eight.
Beloit looks to get back on the winning side Saturday when they play at Illinois College, tipping off at 1:00 p.m.
