Hope Pulls Away from Buccaneers in Florida Finale

Orlando, FL -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team went cold late in the first half and couldn't recover in an 86-66 loss to Hope College in their final game at the RDV Sportsplex Classic on Wednesday night.

The game was close for the first nine minutes before Hope went on a 19-9 run to close the half and lead 41-28 at the break.  Rudy Bentley had 11 points in the opening 20 minutes.

Steve McAfee scored eight straight points early in the second half to pull the Buccaneers within 47-36 but Hope put together a two-minute 10-1 run to grab a 57-37 lead with 13:05 left.  Beloit never got closer than 16 points - with 1:33 remaining - the rest of the game.

The Bucs shot 43.4% (23-53) for the game, including 37.5% (12-32) in the first half.  They also committed 20 turnovers while forcing just seven.  Hope shot 47.9% (34-71) for the game.

McAfee led the Bucs with 20 points, 16 in the second half, while grabbing eight rebounds.  Bentley had 13 points and five assists.  Jacob Manthe grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

McAfee was named to the Classic All-Tournament Team.

Beloit returns to Flood Arena for Midwest Conference play when they host Lake Forest College on Wednesday, January 6.  Tip off is at 5:30 p.m.
