Ripon, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team couldn't match Ripon College's shooting on the way to a 76-56 Midwest Conference loss on Tuesday night.
The Red Hawks scored the first seven points of the game and jumped out to a 21-7 lead after eight minutes. They maintained their double-digit lead for the rest half, going into the break up 42-29. RC shot 60% in the opening 20 minutes (18-30) while the Buccaneers were at 45.8% (11-24).
Ripon came out of the lockerroom on a 23-7 run to take a 65-36 lead just under the 12:00-minute mark. The biggest lead was 30 points at 68-38 with 10:35 remaining. Both teams started clearing the benches during the final 10 minutes and the Beloit reserves closed the game on an 18-8 run for the final score.
Beloit finished at 38.5% shooting (20-52) for the game while the Red Hawks finished at 50% (31-62).
Steve McAfee had 19 points on 7-12 shooting while Rudy Bentley had 11 points. Mike Gulve had nine, including his 9th and 10th three-pointer in the last three games. Tanner Smith's five rebounds led the team.
The Bucs have a one-week break as Beloit heads into finals before getting back on the floor next Wednesday against Cornell College in Flood Arena. Tip-off is at 5:30 p.m.
