February 14, 2015

2015 MBB SeniorsBeloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team suffered another close loss as they finished up their home schedule with a 62-59 loss to Monmouth College in Flood Arena on Saturday.

Beloit had a rough start, falling behind 19-3 eight minutes into the game while struggling to find their shooting touch.  But they had a much better last 12 minutes of the half, going on a 21-5 run in that time to head to the break tied at 24.

The second half was close throughout with seven ties, the last at 58-all with 1:27 remaining.  The Fighting Scots took the lead for good at the 1:07 mark but not without a fight from the Bucs.

Steve McAfee hit 1-2 free throws with 54 seconds left to make it a 61-59 game.  After MC also hit 1-2 with nine seconds left Beloit had one last shot to force overtime.  But a three-pointer hit off the rim as the buzzer sounded to give the Bucs their fifth loss of the season by four points or less.

Both teams shot over 50% in the second half after tough shooting first halves.  Beloit finished at 42.2% (19-45) for the game while Monmouth was at 39.2% (20-51).  MC won the rebounding battle by a 39-25 margin.

Rudy Bentley led Beloit with 20 points while McAfee added 12 with seven rebounds and Andrew Bremner 10.

Seniors Sean Fancsali, Laramie Wieseman, Seth Sanderson, Alex Hade and BJ Kiser played in their final home game for Beloit.

The Buccaneers close the 2014-15 season on Wednesday night at Ripon College.  Tip is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
