Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Men's Basketball team got a result they sorely needed in Flood Arena on Saturday with a strong finish, topping Knox College 76-54.
Beloit looked in control in the opening half, pushing their lead as high as 12 points eight minutes in and 13 with 5:38 remaining at 30-17. But the Prairie Fire had different ideas, closing the half on a 16-5 run, including a buzzer-beating three-pointer, to make it a 35-33 game, Beloit, at the break.
Knox completed their comeback when they took a 39-38 lead just under two minutes into the second half. The Buccaneers regained the lead 20 seconds later but still led by just one point at the 15:53 mark. BC then went on a game-deciding 29-8 run the rest of the game, led by Steve McAfee's 15 points, to win going away.
The Bucs finished at 50.9% from the field for the game (29-57), including 57.7% (15-26) in the second half, while holding KC to 34% for the game (16-47), 30% (6-20) in the second 20 minutes. Beloit also had 14 steals while forcing 24 turnovers and won the rebound battle 35-32.
McAfee led the way with 27 points while Rudy Bentley had 14. Alex Hade had seven rebounds and a career-high six assists. Andrew Bremner also had seven rebounds.
Beloit now braces for a busy week, with three games in five days, starting Tuesday night at conference-leading St. Norbert College. Action begins 7:30 p.m.
