Three Bucs Named All-MWC, Beloit Selected for Sportsmanship Award

Seniors Joey Werner and Jake Karlicek and sophomore Patrick Nicolas have been selected to represent Beloit on the 2018 All-Midwest Conference North Division Teams.

Werner, a runningback from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, was named to the First Team this season. Werner’s six 100 or more yard rushing games this season led the league and his 34 carries against St. Norbert College ranked second in the MWC in 2018. Werner tallied 840 yards on 228 attempts with two rushing touchdowns in 10 games this season. In his career, he accumulated 1,777 yards on the ground in 407 carries, an average of 4.37 yards per carry, with nine rushing touchdowns.

Karlicek, an offensive lineman from Hickory Hills, Illinois, appeared in every game as a Buccaneer during his four-year career. He garners second team honors for the fourth consecutive season in 2018. This season, he led the offensive line that bolstered the fifth-best rushing offense in the league with an average of 131.2 yards per game.

Nicolas joined Karlicek with second team honors this season. The defensive back from San Antonio, Texas made his mark in the Beloit College and Midwest Conference record books this season. He 27 tackles at Ripon broke the program record and ranks fourth all time in the league while his season total of 143 tackles is also a Buccaneer record and is the tenth-most in conference history. Nicolas added an interception, one pass broken up, three forced fumbles, a blocked kick and four fumble recoveries which ties for fourth in the MWC record book for fumble recoveries in a season.

The Bucs wrapped up the 2018 season with a 1-9 mark, the highlight a home-opening win over Knox College. Beloit was also selected as the honoree of the North Division Sportsmanship Award.
