The 2018 Midwest Conference Football Preseason Poll was announced Wednesday. Beloit College is picked to finish sixth in the North Division by the league’s coaches.
The Buccaneers are looking to rebound from a tough 2017 slate where they went 1-9. The Bucs’ season ended on a high note, a 35-0 rout of Grinnell College on the road.
Beloit returns seven offensive and eight defensive starters to the gridiron this season. Senior offensive lineman Jake Karlicek leads the group of returners. As a three-time All-Midwest Conference selection, he has started every game in his collegiate career.
On the other side of the ball, junior Andrei Prikhodko returns to the linebacker corps. He led the team in tackles and was selected as the team’s Defensive Player of the Year a season ago.
Fans can get an early look at the Midwest Conference football season outlook at the league’s first media day Thursday, August 2. The league’s coaches will meet at Lake Forest College to take part in interviews and other activities as the conference gears up for the 2018 season. As for the preseason picks from the MWC coaches, St. Norbert is tabbed to win the North Division followed by Chicago, Macalester, Ripon, Lawrence and Beloit. Monmouth is the league’s South Division pick followed by Lake Forest, Illinois College, Knox, Cornell and Grinnell.
The Buccaneers open their 2018 slate with a scrimmage at Concordia University-Wisconsin August 25 at 5 p.m. in Mequon followed by the season opener at Concordia University-Chicago at 1 p.m. on September 1.
The Bucs will host Knox for their 2018 home opener September 8 at Strong Stadium followed by Beloit’s annual homecoming on September 22 against Cornell. Both games are slated for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
The Bucs will wrap up September with a game under the lights at Illinois College in Jacksonville, Illinois on September 29. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Beloit’s October begins with a home game against Macalester on October 6 followed by an October 13 meeting with Ripon on the road. The Buccaneers return to Strong Stadium October 20 to host Chicago before heading to Appleton to face Lawrence on October 27. All games are scheduled for kickoff at 1 p.m.
The Bucs’ final regular season game has been tabbed as the team’s annual senior day recognition. Beloit will host St. Norbert for that game on November 3 beginning at 1 p.m.
The winners of the MWC North and South Divisions will meet to battle for the league title on November 10.
