Bucs Can't Finish Second-Half Comeback In MN

October 8, 2017

St. Paul, MN -- The Bucs traveled north to take on Macalester College on Saturday searching for a MWC win, but came away empty handed as the Scots successfully defended their home turf. This would be the first North Divisional game for both teams - final score Macalester 56 Beloit 21.

The Scots of Macalester College racked up 522 yards of offense against the Bucs, as Beloit fought through an early flurry of scores from the Scots.

Less than four minutes after kickoff, the scoreboard would read Macalester 14 - Beloit 0. The Bucs wouldn't break the scoreless draught until the end of the 3rd Quarter, as Joey Werner would find the endzone on a 1 yard run after a long Beloit possession.

Speedy Freshman WR Jamiel Garcia had another great showing, proving it will be a treat to watch #80 mature through his years as a Buc. Garcia finished the day with 135 yards on 4 catches, including a long 47 yard catch-and-run late in the game.

Joey Werner would lead the Buccaneers ground game, as he finished with just shy of 100 yards (98) on 17 carries for the Blue and Gold.

Both Buccaneer QB's would see time against the Scots, as Sophomore Ben Sposito started the game, finishing with 3 INT's, and 11-22 for 108 yards. Junior Erick Mitchell would come on in relief, securing both TD strikes, going 7-11 for 148 in the air, with 1 INT.

The Buccaneers would score touchdowns on consecutive possessions in the fourth quarter, with Junior Quarterback Erick Mitchell connecting with Freshman WR Dominic Vukobradovich on both drives.

With that, the 2017 Bucs fall to 0-5, and 0-1 in North Divisional MWC Play. The Bucs return home this weekend, October 14th, as they host the Ripon Redhawks at 1 PM.
