Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Football team came up just short on Saturday at Strong Stadium, falling 21-14 to Macalester College.
The Scots scored a TD in both the third and fourth quarters while the Bucs were stopped short of the end zone in the third before scoring late in the game for the final score.
Macalester struck first on a short run with 10 seconds left in the opening quarter. The Buccaneers even it up at 7 apiece at 9:12 of the second quarter on a 19-yard scoring pass from Danny May to Ryan Sughroue. That scored held into halftime.
MC grabbed the lead for good 3:03 into the second half on a 15-yard run. The Bucs were within a yard of tying it up but a bobbled snap on fourth down turned the ball back over to the Macs.
Macalester increased their lead to two TDs early in the fourth quarter on a short pass. Beloit got back with one score with 43 seconds left when May hit Ethan Conley with a seven-yard scoring pass. But the ensuing on-side kick was recovered by MC, who took two kneel-downs to run out the clock for the win.
Beloit finished with 438 total yards while allowing 294. May finished with 225 yards passing and added 72 rushing yards. Mason Dixon rushed for 125 yards on 20 carries and caught five passes for a team-high 62 yards. Sughroue also had five catches for 58 yards.
David Lafayette made nine tackles, seven solo, to lead the defense. Riley Pearson had three tackles, including two sacks and a forced fumble. Henry Jacobsen made the game's lone interception.
Beloit plays its home finale next Saturday at Strong for Senior Day, hosting nationally-ranked Monmouth College. Kickoff is at 1:00 p.m.
