Rockford, Ill. -- Instead of getting two games at home this weekend, the Buccaneer Men had yesterday's game cancelled due to unplayable conditions (to be rescheduled this week vs Monmouth) and had to move today's match against Illinois College to the Sportscore Complex in Rockford, Ill. Both the Men and the Women of Beloit kicked off this morning at 8 AM.
High winds were a huge factor in this morning's match, as most goal kicks and punts were sent in different directions all day long. With the wind, the score-sheet stayed blank for almost the full 90 minutes, until IC Blueboy sophomore Bohlt Hamrick put one past Buccaneer junior goalie Jere Bauer with less than 45 seconds left on the clock to seal the win.
Shots for the Bucs were at a premium, as it seemed as if the Blueboys were dealing with conditions better, out-shooting the Bucs 25-9, with 9 on frame to the Bucs 3.
Winning the shutout was IC goalie Ty Clearwater, making 3 saves in 90 minutes of action. For the Bucs, Bauer finished with 8 saves, while allowing the one Blueboy goal.
For the Buccaneer shooters, 3 in Blue and Gold got shots on frame; Connor Peterson, Deji Agunbiade, and Casey Wagner. Wagner got within a hair of an equalizer for the Bucs, as his header missed the post by less than an inch.
Beloit won't have much time to think about the loss, as they head right back to Sportscore on Wednesday, to make up Saturdays rainout against the Fighting Scots of Monmouth College, a pivotal MWC match for both teams.
