Three Buccaneers have earned All-Region honors from the United States Track and Field and Cross County Coaches Association including Jose Gutierrez, Scott Fuchs and Eva Laun-Smith.
The top five individuals in each event from each region earn All-Region honors.
Gutierrez catapulted himself into eleventh in the national rankings in the 400-meter hurdles with a 52.80 clocking in the event at a last chance meet hosted by North Central College last week. His time bested the competition at the meet, set the program record, ranks third in the region and secured his spot to compete in the 400 hurdles at the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse this week.
Laun-Smith launched herself 12.27 meters, a leap surpassing the 40-foot mark, at a final qualifier to top the competition, break the school record and move into the top spot in the region in the event. Her mark ranks second in the nation heading into the NCAA Division III Championships.
Fuchs, a former baseball player competing in the javelin for the first time this season recorded a distance of 57.47 meters (188-6) in a final qualifier, a mark that ranks third in the region.
The 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse are slated to begin Thursday. Gutierrez is slated to run prelims in the 400 hurdles at 3 p.m. Thursday. The finals in the event are scheduled for 2:15 p.m. Saturday. Laun-Smith is scheduled to take flight in the triple jump beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday.
