Beloit’s first-year phenom Eva Laun-Smith wrapped up her incredible indoor track and field season with All-Region honors in the 60-meter hurdles from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Midwest Conference champion in three events, Laun-Smith is one of just four women from the MWC to receive all-region recognition.
In addition to earning event titles in the 60-meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump, Laun-Smith was named the MWC Outstanding Field Performer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
She set program records in the three events on multiple occasions throughout the season. Laun-Smith crossed the line in 8.95 in a preliminary heat of the 60-meter hurdles at the league championship to break the Ripon College facility record and program record in the event. That mark was the fourth-best in the region this season and registered as the top time in the event by a first-year student-athlete.
Laun-Smith’s 5.57 meters (18-3.25) in the long jump and 11.59 meters (38-0.25) in the triple jump set the program record in the events, are the best in the conference this season, stand in the top ten in the region and rank among the top 25 in Division III.
In her first collegiate championship meet, Laun-Smith led the Buccaneers to their best finish in 10 years.
