GRINNELL, Iowa – Beloit College hurdler Jose Gutierrez has been named the Midwest Conference (MWC) Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week. Gutierrez tied his own school record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.49) at the University of Chicago Windy City Rumble. That time is tops in the conference. The junior also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash (52.47), which is good for 10th in the league.
Beloit College freshman Eva Laun-Smith has earned her third Midwest Conference (MWC) Performer of the Week award in four weeks. Laun-Smith broke two school records at the University of Chicago Windy City Rumble. Her time of 9.11 in the 60-meter hurdles was a new school record and was good for first place. She also set another record in the triple jump with a leap of 38 ¼”, a mark good for eighth nationally. These are both top marks in the MWC. In the long jump Laun-Smith finished second with a leap of 17’1.25”.
Beloit’s Lena Ramsey finished fourth in the women's triple jump at U of Chicago with a jump of 35' 6 ½”, which is currently the fourth-best in the MWC. She sits in sixth in the MWC in the long jump with a mark of 16'6".
Beloit is back on the track this Saturday at the University of Wisconsin - Platteville. Meet starts at 11:00am.
