Beloit, Wis. – The Women’s Basketball Team took on the Lady Blues of Illinois College in their first game of 2018, but they couldn’t overcome their 31 turnovers in the 43-60 in-conference loss.
After falling behind 12-19 in the 1st quarter, the Bucs cut the deficit to 2 (19-21) on free throws from #10 Danielle Strejc (’20 Evanston, Ill.) when the Illinois College bench was assessed a technical with 7:10 left in the 2nd quarter.
A Lady Blues run to start the second half put Illinois College up by 13 (23-36), but junior Shelby Kline (’19 Rockton, Ill.) responded with a 3-pointer to cut the lead to single digits (28-36) with 3:30 to play in the 3rd quarter. This was as close as the Bucs would get, though, as the Lady Blues pulled away to end the game.
Senior Melissa McLean (’18 Woodridge, Ill.) joined Kline (10) in double figures, nearly posting a double-double with 14 points and 9 rebounds.
Next up for the Bucs (3-9, 1-4) are the Prairie Fire of Knox College on Friday, January 12th in Galesburg, Ill. Tip-off is at 7:30pm.
