The Women’s Basketball team depth was on display Friday night at Flood Arena, with four players reaching double figures in a dominant 79-56 victory over the Grinnell College Pioneers.
Beloit never trailed in a contest which saw two teammates, Lauren Glaser (’20 Inverness, Ill.) and Shelby Kline (’19 Rockton, Ill.) notch career highs in points, with 15 and 26 points, respectively. In addition, Candace Cunningham (’19 Cary, Ill.) and Melissa McLean (’18 Woodridge, Ill.) chipped in 10 and 12 points to round out the double-digit scorers.
After a close first quarter, the Bucs clamped down on defense, allowing only 5 points in the second period to take a comfortable 19-point lead into the half.
Back-to-back 3-pointers by Glaser forced a Pioneer timeout midway through the 3rd quarter, which seemed to be the turning point in an all-around impressive performance by the home team. The Bucs were able to extend the lead to as high as 32 (70-38) before closing out with a strong finish.
The Bucs (2-4, 1-2) have a quick turnaround as they return to action tomorrow afternoon at 1pm against Monmouth College. Tomorrow’s game will be the final in a 3-game home stand.
