Bucs Go 3-0 Twice In One Day

September 23, 2017

Beloit, WI - The volleyball Bucs hosted a tri-match on Saturday, bringing both Alverno College and Mount Mary University to Flood Arena. Beloit came away 2-0 on the day, winning both matches out right, 3-0.

Game 1 in Flood was against the Mount Mary University Blue Angels. The Bucs made quick work of their first match-up of the morning, winning in 3, (25-9)(25-21)(25-9).

Junior Libero Abby Gessell wouldn't let much get past her in game 1, finishing with 20 digs, which was a match high.

Senior MB Jaylan Dunn has made her presence felt all season, and today's matches were nothing different. Against Mount Mary she finished with 9 kills, 18 attacks, and 1 set.

Freshman OH Eva Laun-Smith played with aggression all afternoon, totaling 8 kills and 8 digs against the Blue Angels.

Sophomore Setter Paige Wimbrow went on the offensive, as she grabbed 26 assists (match high) and chipped in 9 digs.

Game 2 in Flood saw the Bucs mark up against familiar foe Alverno College, for the 3rd time this season. It is normally a very heated, back and forth contest between the Bucs and the Inferno; this time Beloit walked away with a win in 3, (25-10)(25-19)(25-22).

Libero Abbey Gessell was right back to her normal self, putting in 17 digs, another match high.

Setter Paige Wimbrow repeated her earlier performance as well, notching 23 assists against Alverno, and again, 9 crucial digs.

Sophomore OH Amanda Baran kept the pressure on the Inferno all match long, as she added 11 kills and 15 digs.

Freshman OH Eva Laun-Smith finished her day in similar style, putting down 8 kills with 20 total attacks against Alverno.

Beloit moves to 5-9 on the season, and has a quick turnaround this week. The Bucs will take the short trip south to Rockford to face the Regents on Tuesday. Match is slated to begin at 7 PM.
