Beloit, WI -- Rockford University went up 1-0 in the 8th minute against the Bucs, and Beloit couldn't shake it for the rest of the match, falling 2-1 to the visiting Regents today at the Strong Stadium soccer fields.
Alonzo Carrillo got the Regents on the board first, as he dropped one in over the Buc defense and goalie EJ Lowney from 30 yds out, only 8 minutes into the match. That would end up being the only scoring action in the first half, as both teams battled hard with possession and good looks, but each would find some difficulty putting shots on frame.
Rockford would out-shoot Beloit 20-10, and 10-3 in shots on goal overall, while Beloit held on to a slight advantage in corner kicks, 8-5.
A couple of Buccaneer corner kicks would turn into seriously great looks at net, but were unable to sneak past Regent goalkeeper Anthony Beck, who allowed 1 goal, and made 2 saves in 90 minutes of action.
For Beloit, junior EJ Lowney got the start in net, but had to be subbed out in the second half due to injury, being replaced by senior Jere Bauer. Bauer would allow 1 goal, while making 2 saves in relief time.
For the Bucs, the ever present, and always dangerous Jose Gutierrez would end up thwarting the Regent's shut-out bid, putting one past Beck in the 55th minute, to bring the score to 2-1.
The other score, and game-winner, went to Rockford's Brandon Oeltjenbruns, assisted by Cruz Marquez, in the 53rd minute.
Beloit drops to 2-4 overall, and has off until Saturday, when they hit the road to IIT for a 7 PM kickoff.
