Beloit, WI -- The Bucs played a rare double-header weekend at home on Saturday and Sunday, and came out on top. After winning their first on Saturday, they followed it up in similar fashion, besting the Cougars of Concordia University Chicago 3-1 at Strong Stadium today.
Even though the Cougars out-shot the Bucs 16-8, the ones the Bucs got on frame were the ones that counted. It only took until the 17th minute for Beloit to put one on the scoreboard, as Freddy Widmer corralled a rebound in front of the net and put it past the goalie.
CUC's shooters really put Junior goalie Alex Lyon to work, as he was able to register 8 saves, while only allowing 1 goal, in the 77th minute, to Cougar forward Ricardo Aragon.
At the half, it was 1-0 Beloit. Concordia Chicago made a push to come back in the second frame, however Beloit wouldn't have any of it, making the most of all opportunities given to them.
At the 82nd minute, Jackson Rogers took a cross pass in front of the net and sunk one near side, to go up 2-1. Rogers' goal proved to be the game winner, but the Bucs wanted to make sure, as Jose Gutierrez took an assist from Deji Agunbiade and beat the Cougar's goalie near-side.
That assist turned out to be Agunbiade's 2nd of the day, and 4th point of the weekend in the back-to-back series.
Beloit has a couple days off to rest up and re-charge after the trying weekend, as they host nearby Rockford University on Wednesday, September 13th. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:00 PM.
