Beloit, WI -- A shot by junior Jose Gutierrez in the 8th minute, putting the Bucs up 1-0 over the visiting Maranatha Baptist Sabrecats turned out to be the only one needed, as Beloit never looked back, shutting out Maranatha Baptist 4-0.
The win at home also gave Duncan Gillis, Beloit alum, his first victory as Head Coach for the Buccaneers.
While the offense certainly found some solid footing in front of the Sabrecat net, the Buc defense held strong, limiting the opposition to a single shot on goal, which was a save by Beloit GK Jere Bauer. Today's win also gave Bauer his first win of the young season.
At the half, it was Beloit 2, Maranatha Baptist 0, and possession, pressure, shots, and sets were all trending positively in the Bucs direction.
Beloit didn't waste time or energy coming out of the half, with Danny O'Leary finding the back of the net at the 46th minute, assisted by Gutierrez.
The final marker for the Bucs came in the 56th minute, once again off the boot of Gutierrez, sending home a kick off a foul from the Sabrecats.
Jere Bauer went the distance in net, making 1 save in the 2nd half of play, finishing the shutout.
No rest for the weary, as Beloit returns to the home pitch tomorrow, hosting Concordia University of Chicago for a 12:30 match.
