Tenacity Key In Cross Country Bucs This Season

November 1, 2017

Jacksonville, Ill. -- We’ve seen a lot of the Beloit Cross-Country team this year. From The Early Bird Meet in Roscoe Ill and the UW Whitewater meet in 90° heat to Wisconsin Privates in Watertown WI where rain, mud, and chill defined the day. Having to constantly race in these harsh conditions might have prepared the Beloit Buccaneers for what they met on Saturday.

But when they stepped off the bus they were met with an unprecedented reality. The Midwest Championship Meet at the Links at Jacksonville Golf Course in Jacksonville Ill was a new arena entirely. With the temperature in the high 30’s and sleet flying through the air no one knew what to expect.

That would include how well the Bucs would preform. Both men’s and women’s teams placed 7th in their races while the men’s average time was 27:23 and the women’s was 24:44, both of these an improvement from previous races.

If this shows anything it shows that Bucs aren’t easily deterred or frightened. When the weather gets bad is when the Beloit Cross Country team shines.

Leading off the men was Daniel Arkes (Junior, co-captain) in 12th with a huge PR at 26:04.5. Taking 42nd with a 27:21.2 was Noah Sisson (Sophomore) followed by Forrest Lloyd (Senior) in 49th crossing at 27:35.2. Places 54 and 55 were taken by Jack Klobucar (Junior, co-captain) and Philippe Mortelliti (Freshman) with a 27:55.9 and 27:59.2 respectively.

On the women’s side, Miranda Simes (Honor’s Term Senior, co-captain) 33rd had a season best of 23:45.3. Behind her was Jamie Manchen (Junior) in 40th at 24:06.8.

In 57th with a time of 25:02.8 was Fiona Cismedia (Freshman) followed in 64th by Sophia Miliotis (Junior) at 25:22.2. Rounding off the scoring five for the Bucs in 66th place was Britta Johnson (Junior) finishing with a time of 25:23.5.

This is not the end of the season for the Beloit Buccaneers however. This weekend they have off to rest up before the Midwest Regional Meet, so look forward to more XC Buc action!
