Beloit, WI -- This Saturday the Beloit Buccaneers stayed at home and ran the annual Old English Classic at Leeson Park.
This was a very particular style of racing that involves running through creeks and jumping over hay bales. For the XC team, the Old English has become a sacred event and Alumni from years past usually make the pilgrimage years after they graduate.
Again this year Alumni joined the current team in participating throughout the event.
Winning the men’s race was Beloit junior and co-captain Daniel Arkes with a respectable 28:32.7. Charles Sandberg (Sophomore) came in 6 the at the 29:41.2 mark. Coming in 12th was Philippe Mortelliti (Freshman) with a 30:17.9. In 22nd was Forrest Lloyd (Senior) claiming a 31:22.6, followed by Noah Sisson (Sophomore) in 24th with a 31:34.9.
It is important to note that the heat was definitely a factor in this race along with the creek crossings. Temperature stayed well within the high 80's and low 90's throughout the races.
