Bucs Fall to Edgewood to Wrap Up 2018 Season

The Beloit College baseball team fell to Edgewood 17-14 to wrap up the 2018 season with a 20-18 mark.

Between the two teams, 43 players saw time on the field including 21 Buccaneers. The Eagles changed pitchers each inning while seven Bucs took the mound Monday afternoon.

Edgewood tallied the first run of the game in the top of the first. Beloit responded with four runs in their half of the frame and added two more in the bottom of the third.

The Eagles scored nine runs on nine hits in the fourth inning to take a 10-6 advantage but the Bucs narrowed the gap to one, 10-9 by the sixth.

Another big inning at the plate for the Eagles brought in five runs and Edgewood added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth to extend their lead to 17-9.

The Bucs refused to quit and rallied in their final two plate appearances of the game. Jalen Davis led off the frame with a walk and advanced on a balk. Ethan Conley followed with a single to centerfield and Dutton was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Robbie Achramowicz tagged a ball to centerfield for a two-RBI double to cut the lead to 17-11.

Schmidt led off the bottom of the ninth taking first after being struck by a pitch. Brice Call notched a single to right center and Davis drew another walk to load the bases. A wild pitch saw one Buccaneer cross the plate. Conley and Dutton recorded back-to-back RBI singles to left field to cut the deficit to 17-14 but the Eagles held off the Bucs’ comeback for the final.

Conley led the Bucs with a 3-for-6 performance at the plate with two runs scored and two runs batted in. Davis was 0-for-1 but drew four walks and scored each time he reached. Call and McKay each tallied two hits in the contest.

On the mound, Jamie Huntley registered the start while David Hlawek, Connor McCloskey, Josh Nelson, Jacob Sligar, Zachary Miller and Keith Haina all saw time in relief.
