Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team ran their winning streak to four straight on a cold and occasionally misty day at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium with a 16-5 win over stateline rival Rockford University Thursday in seven innings.
The Buccaneers had control of the game from the beginning, scoring once in the first on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Dutton. They tacked on five runs in the second with five hits. After the first run scored on an error Mike Gulve and Jalen Davis had RBI singles and Kam Sallee and Dutton hit sacrifice fly's.
The Regents got two runs back in the third and a solo run in the fourth to pull back within 6-3. But Beloit responded with a run in the bottom of the fourth on Sallee's single and then exploded for seven runs in the fifth on the strength of four hits, three RU errors, a walk and a hit-by-pitch. The first run scored on an error, Mark Christine and Sallee singled in runs and Dutton drove in two with a base hit. The last two runs scored on a two-out error, making it 14-3.
Rockford closed out the scoring with two in the seventh before the game was called early.
Colton Lopez, who started and pitched two innings with a pair of strikeouts, got his second win of the season. Davis, Sallee and Christine all had three hits and Sallee and Dutton both drove in four runs. Gulve had two hits and scored three runs, as did Davis and Christine.
Beloit now has some time off before a big Midwest Conference series with Ripon College, beginning Saturday, May 6, at The Ballpark before finishing the series on May 7 at Ripon. Action both days begins at 1:00 p.m.
