Buccaneers' Season Ends at Midwest Regional

May 19, 2016

La Crosse, WI -- An exciting, successful season ended for the Beloit College Baseball team Thursday morning at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional in an 8-1 loss to the College of St. Scholastica in an elimination game.

The loss completed one of the best seasons ever for the Bucs, who finished 27-14 overall, tied for the second-most victories in a season in the program's long history.  In addition to the win total, Beloit shared the Midwest Conference North Division title and won their second MWC Championship.

Thursday, the game was scoreless until the Saints plated four runs in the top of the fourth, putting together four hits and a walk.  The Buccaneers cut into the deficit in the bottom half of the inning with what proved to be their only run.  Joey Casa led off with a double and Kam Sallee singled to left field, advancing Casa to third.  Casa kept coming when the ball got through the left fielder.

CSS added two runs in the sixth on a two-run single through the left side and added their final two runs in the ninth on a pair of hits and an error.

Ryan Kaveney finished an outstanding career by going complete, allowing 12 hits and seven earned runs, striking out four and walking three to finish 8-4 on the season.  Casa finished with two of the Bucs' five hits.

Seniors Casa, Kaveney, Adrian Peil, Matt Meade, Zach Kolasinski, Tyler Peacock and Will Marcus played their final game for Beloit College.
