La Crosse, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team had no answers in their opening game of the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional, falling to host UW-La Crosse 17-2 at Copeland Park Wednesday afternoon.
The Eagles, ranked #3 by the ABCA and #4 by D3Baseball.com, scored in every inning except the third. They got one in the first, two in the second and fourth, three in the fifth, four in the sixth, three in the seventh and two in the eighth while finishing with 23 hits.
The Buccaneers got on the board in the eighth when Matt Meade was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score Mark Christine and Kam Sallee, the next batter, hit a deep sacrifice fly to center to plate Mike Gulve.
The Bucs finished with four hits, two by Mike Gulve, one by Joey Casa and one by Baylee Slevira. Gulve and Casa led off the game with back-to-back singles.
Austin Padjen took the loss, going five innings and allowing eight runs, six earned, on 10 hits, striking out three and walking one.
Beloit now moves into the losers bracket and will play the College of St. Scholastica in an elimination game at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning.
