Buccaneers Take Split in MWC Series with Lawrence

May 1, 2016

Beloit, WI -- The Beloit College Baseball team won game two Sunday at The Ballpark at Strong Stadium 14-4 to earn a split of their doubleheader with Lawrence University and a split of the four-game Midwest Conference series.  The Vikings won the opener Sunday 5-4.

In game two, the Bucs got rolling early with a run-scoring double by Brice Call and a two-run home run by Kam Sallee in the first.  They added three more runs in the second on Sallee's bases-loaded walk, an RBI fielder's choice by Ryan Kaveney and Call's steal of home.  LU got back in the game with four in the third inning, three of the runs unearned, but that proved to be the extent of their scoring for the game.  Beloit answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning on Mike Gulve's run-scoring fielder's choice and Call's RBI single to make it 8-4.

The Buccaneers added a run in the fifth when Call scored on an error and broke the game open with four in the seventh.  Joey Casa doubled in a run, Kaveney singled one in and Zach Kolasinski singled in the last two.  Call then singled in the eighth to score Gulve and end the game early.

Jamie Huntley earned the win, his third of the season, with 5.2 innings of four-hit relief.  Call finished with four hits while Kaveney had three and Casa, Sallee and Kolasinski two each in the 15-hit attack.

In game one the Vikings scored twice in the second and three times in the fourth for the early 5-0 advantage.  Beloit got one back in the fourth on Kaveney's single and another in the sixth on Sallee's single.  A run in the seventh on Casa's sacrifice fly made it 5-3 and Kolasinski's single in the eighth made it a one-run game.  In the ninth the Bucs loaded the bases with none out but two pop-ups and a fly out ended the game.

Call, Sallee and Kaveney all had two hits in the game.

Beloit closes out the regular season in the coming week with an MWC series against Ripon College.  The Bucs play two in Ripon on Thursday and then host a doubleheader next Sunday.
