Peacock's Single Gives Bucs Extra-Inning Win over Wittenberg

March 7, 2016

Auburndale, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team and Wittenberg University played scoreless baseball thru 9 1/2 innings until Tyler Peacock's two-out single in the bottom of the tenth plated Mike Gulve with the only run of the game, giving the Bucs a 1-0 win.

The teams traded missed chances through the first nine innings.  Wittenberg had runners in scoring position (at second or third base) in the first, third, seventh, ninth and tenth while Beloit had runners ready to score in the first, second, third, fourth, sixth and ninth before finally getting that big hit in the tenth.  In the bottom of the ninth Adrian Peil was thrown out at the plate, looking to score from second on a pinch-hit single by Jalen Davis.

In the tenth, Gulve led off with a hit-by-pitch and was sacrificed to second by Joey Casa.  Kam Sallee was intentionally walked before Peacock knocked a 3-2 pitch past the infield and Gulve beat the throw home.

Brice Call got the win on the mound after five innings of four-hit ball, striking out two and walking none.  Steven O'Neill went the first five innings, giving up just three hits while striking out three and walking two.

The Buccaneers have a couple of days off before getting back on the field Thursday against Coe College in Auburndale at 2:30 p.m. Eastern.
