Winter Haven, FL -- The Beloit College Baseball team couldn't get that one big hit in dropping their 2016 opener on Saturday, 3-1 to St. Vincent College of Pennsylvania.
Beloit got their one and only score in the second inning on an unearned run when Adrian Peil scored all the way from first base on a single by Zach Kolasinski and the subsequent throwing error. That run stood up until the bottom of the sixth when the Bearcats plated three runs on four hits.
The Buccaneers had the tying and/or winning runs in scoring position in the eight and ninth innings but couldn't push them across.
Kolasinski and Kam Sallee each had two hits of the six by the Bucs. Ryan Kaveney went seven innings, allowing eight hits while striking out five and walking one.
Beloit plays SUNY Polytechnic Institute of New York twice on Sunday in Auburndale. Game one gets underway at 8:15 Central Time.
