I have been working as the Program and Design Coordinator/AmeriCorps Fellow at HIPS, a harm reduction nonprofit in DC. I work on the mobile outreach van, providing counseling, harm reduction tools and safe sex materials for drug users and sex workers in the district. I have been putting my studio art major to good use post Beloit in the public health world. I redesigned the HIPS website (www.hips.org) and created the communication and promotional materials for the organization. I also orchestrated a new mural currently being painted in the HIPS Center for Health & Achievement. Post Beloit, I really hoped to incorporate art making into my work in public health and I’m excited to be doing just that!
Some of my favorite Beloit experiences are tied to studio art special projects. As a Junior, I facilitated a community art photography project in partnership with Sustained Dialogue on campus to address invisible social barriers on campus. As a senior, I collaborated with with my Cross Country Coach to create an art show at Gallery ABBA that tied in the experience of running at Beloit to our art making. I highly encourage students who are interested in art to create art outside of the classroom setting as much as possible
