Megan Armstrong Scheffer'10
Since graduating from Beloit College with a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art and Psychology, I worked for an online art company and recently graduated from the MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute. After graduation I had the honor of attending artist residency programs at the Vermont Studio Center and Woodstock Byrdcliffe. My work won Best in Show and the People's Choice Award at the State of the Art Gallery in Ithaca, NY, and has been exhibited at Exhibit A Gallery in Corning, NY, and the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, NY. I recently moved to Rochester, NY, and look forward to connecting with the fantastic art scene and community that it has to offer. I recently launched Hyperkulturemia Gallery, an experimental contemporary space that focuses on solo-exhibitions for emerging artists, designed entirely by each individual artist who participates. It is my personal goal in life to make, recognize, and encourage challenging and thoughtful art. After graduating from Beloit College with a major and honors in Studio Art, I worked for Artful Home, an art company based in Madison, WI.
I accepted an offer to the MFA program at the San Francisco Art Institute, where I formed long-lasting relationships with professors and other emerging artists, and developed a body of work that I am still exploring. Without the support and encouragement from Professors Scott Espeseth, Jo Ortel, and George Williams, I never would have considered or defined myself as an artist. Beloit College is incredibly lucky to have such excellent Studio Art and Art History Faculty, and their continuous support and friendship has given me confidence as an artist and in the arts ability to affect positive change.
