Meet Peter Bartanen'08

Class Agent and Super Teacher

Peter Bartanen'08

Name: Peter Bartanen

Class Year: 2008

Hometown: Originally Tacoma, WA – now Chandler, AZ

Occupation: Teacher, doctoral student, education software developer

Why do you volunteer to be a Class Agent? I want to give back to Beloit in the best way that I can. Being a class agent is a great way for me to stay connected to the College and my peers.

How long have you been volunteering for Beloit? Since graduating in 2008.

What else do you volunteer for (at Beloit or elsewhere)? At the moment I do a lot of work through my school district and with Arizona Project WET and the Nature Conservancy.

What is your favorite memory of Beloit? February 2008, during the presidential primary campaign season, and the improbable day of dueling political rallies. I enjoyed welcoming Chelsea Clinton to campus at a lunch time rally at DKs and then meeting Barack Obama prior to his huge rally in Flood Arena.

What's on your bucket list? Visiting all 30 major league baseball stadiums, improving my photography skills, running my own school.

What can't you live without? My family, Seattle sports teams, computer access

What is your proudest moment? Receiving a Teacher of the Year Innovation Award in 2013

Favorite meal? Creamy chicken enchiladas!

Favorite campus hangout (even if it's no longer here)? 3rd floor Pearsons in the BelCon office. I practically lived there for three years.

What about Beloit gets you excited (today)? The positive energy and exciting news that seems to be emanating from the college. The Student Center project is something I yearned for throughout my time at Beloit.

Why do you give to Beloit? Beloit equipped me to be a change agent in my community. The education I received and the individuals I crossed paths with in Beloit was second-to-none. I want future Beloit students to experience the same kind of transformation as I did.

What advice would you give to new Class Agents just starting out? Stay visible and stay current with what's happening at Beloit.
