Robert L. Virgil
Class of 1956
25th Reunion Award
Educator – University Administrator
In describing the influence of four years on this campus as “pervasive,” you acknowledge that Beloit’s values, traditions, and standards have helped shape your own. A 17-year veteran of the staff at Washington University in St Louis, from which you have a master’s and doctorate degrees, you now serve as dean of the Graduate School of Business Administration and the School of Business and Public Administration. The high esteem in which you are held by your accounting students is reflected in your selection as “Teacher of the Year” on ten occasions – seven times by graduate students and three times by undergraduates. An authority on financial accounting, you have written numerous articles for professional journals, participated in national seminars, advised firms establishing management development programs, and been a visiting professor at the Amos Tuck School of Business Administration at Dartmouth University. You also serve Beloit in the important role of alumni trustee. In testimony to your commitment to higher education and your fidelity to its high standards, Beloit College proudly awards you this Citation on the occasion of your 25th Class Reunion.
